About this opportunity
The Umkreisungen– Orbiting Residency Program offers Berlin-based choreographers and dancers the opportunity to engage in choreography-based, process-oriented, and participatory work in collaboration with neighborhoods and urban society. The program emphasizes establishing cross-connections to urban society and activating the architectural space of the Heizhaus and its surroundings for shared experiences. It encourages free experimentation and collaborative work, focusing on new formats of exchange and joint process development. The residency is open to professional dancers and choreographers based in Berlin, in close collaboration with partner initiatives from other fields. A short letter of intent from the partner initiative is mandatory. The program offers a monthly stipend of €2,000 for all dancers/choreographers participating full-time in the project (core group, max. 3 persons), working space for a period of 6 weeks, material and fee budget for working materials, commissioning/invitation of external experts/collaborators, and miscellaneous expenses, provision of technical equipment for the entire period (subject to agreement and availability) and technical support (at least 32 hours subject to agreement and availability), support and advice on networking with initiatives and multipliers in the neighborhood/urban society, and, if desired, an informal showing of the research. The application deadline is March 22, 2026, with the decision communicated by the end of April. The residency is scheduled for July/August 2026 or November/December 2026 (exact dates to be determined).
